Senior Judge Lozano of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana has set another two-day jury trial concerning disbarred Robert Stochel. Stochel was appointed receiver in 1999 of a local Northwest Indiana grocery store. While acting as the receiver, Stochel allegedly withdrew over $300,000.00 from the receivership account for personal use. He later deposited his own funds into the receivership accounts to pay for its legitimate expenses. However, other attorney’s involved in the bankruptcy uncovered the conversion after he failed to provide a final accounting. Inevitably, Stochel was found in contempt by the Northern District Bankruptcy Court and was charged in the present federal criminal case for mail fraud. A trial was held in December 2017; but, the jury returned deadlocked.
